Terra Cotta is Italian for baked earth. The warm, rich natural clay is perfect for table and bake ware. Our pottery brings you the traditions of the handmade pot with a new, fresh look and colors. We make each piece, one at a time , entirely by hand. We hand throw, slab build and mold each piece. We paint each piece with up to 15 coats of our own underglaze colors to bring you rich, saturated and distinct colors. These colors are fired in and will never fade. We use our own leadfree clear glaze so you can be sure they are all food safe.
Richard and Robin have been full time potters for over 30 years. We create all our work at our Eugene, Oregon home studio. We use traditional pottery motifs and use them in a bold, new way to give our pieces a look that calls on the past but is completely current.
Our work is wonderful for baking. The pottery distributes the heat extremely well which stops hot spots that lead to burning. A pie bakes as well on the bottom crust as on the top. I normally increase the baking time and use a slightly higher temperature than what is called for in recipes. Because there is not much chance of burning it helps to develope better crusts. No need to start with a cold oven but please do not broil.
Our pottery is dishwasher safe but hand wash large pieces.
Our pots are microwave safe for up to 5 minutes for reheating. The brown clay does heat in the microwave so be careful when removing and use a hot pad.
